Peckover House and Gardens

Bug and I journeyed up to the Peckover House and Gardens from Houghton Mill. It is about an hours
drive away.

This National Trust property is located on the river Wisbech. The only other time I have ever been to Wisbech was to collect Ruddles from the breeder. Wisbech is a Georgian town, north of Ely.

The Peckover House was built in 1722. The Peckovers were in the banking industry but they were also Quakers. They supported several local organizations.

There are five rooms on the main floor, four upstairs and the kitchen and servants quarters to view. The displays are lovely.  The grand piano is able to be played.

This is a beautiful property and the gardens are lovely to wander around (even if you are not a lover of gardens). They have a tearoom and second hand bookshop.

There are things that children are able to touch and children's trails.

I feel some of their events are pitched to an older audience.

Also Octavia Hill's house is located on the other side of the river. Octavia is the co-founder of the National Trust which started in 1855.

Wisbech also has a huge statue of Thomas Clarkson, who did the research for William Wilberforce to ban the slave trade. Thomas Clarkson was from Wisbech.

I enjoyed this property and the staff were lovely. Not much else to do in Wisbech except the Octavia Hill's House. I would suggest people stop by if they were in the area.
