In the local area in the summer time, you will see fields of yellow flowers, as shown in the photo, also known as rapeseed (the British olive oil). In North America, we call it canola oil because they did not want the association between rape and rapeseed. The rapeseed farmed in East Anglia is used in cooking but the oil is very expensive. It is supposed to be very high in omegas 3, 6 and 9. It can also be heated up to a high temperature without losing its antioxidant properties, color or flavor because it is high in mono-unsaturated fats. It has a earthy, nutty flavor rather than fruity.
It is also used as animal feed and biodeisel fuel.
