Dartford Crossing

If you are going to the South of England, you need to look to see if you will be crossing the Dartford Crossing. The Queen Elizabeth II bridge (as known as the QE bridge in traffic reports) was built in 1990. Originally there were toll booths that you paid to cross but with the amount of traffic, they removed them and now you either pay online or by phone. You have up to midnight the following day after you cross it or you will receive a Penalty Charge Notice. The charge depends on the type of vehicle you have.

They do not look lightly on those that do not pay when required as there are plenty of signs telling you that you must pay. If you think you will be traveling a bit, you can load some money against your car (they read your license plate and match their database) so you can be sure that you will not be caught out.

All the Best!
