Thetford Priory was one of the most important monasteries in East Anglia. Its a lovely place to stop off and have a walk around and there are signs and pictures explaining what is around you.
The Thetford Priory was a home for Benedictine monks. They fell under the St Edmunds Abbey. One interesting thing that I found about this place that might not be on the placards is that although monks are thought to live in poverty as part of their service to God, there was a point that the conditions were too poor that the monks left this place and it was taken over by nuns. This highlights the conditions that nuns would live in as their service to the Church.
It is free to visit and you could make a half day of it if the weather is nice and have a picnic amongst the ruins. It is very picturesque.
All the Best!
