The word rubbish is a bone of contention for me. I really get wound up when the British get on their high horse and talk about the Americanisms creeping in their language. I think because of where I work and the circles I run in I probably get corrected more than most Americans.
As you know Americans use trash instead of rubbish but what the British don't know is that trash is a Middle English word that they dropped in the 1800's and picked up rubbish instead. I think it just winds me because there are somethings that stuck with Americans due to the distance of the oceans and so the cultures evolved separately.
