Thetford Warren

A lost industry in Thetford is farming rabbits. The meat was eaten at medieval banquets and they used the furs to line the robes for royals and nobles.

In the 18th century, the fur was made into hats. Mercury was used to treat the fur for manufacturing and the workers had symptoms of madness due to their exposure. The saying "mad as a hatter" comes from this.

Rabbits were farmed here until the early 20th century.

There are quite a few walks in the local area as well.

All the Best!
